Takeaways From our Meet-Up in Bilbao

Earlier this year, in October, our M4ESTRO team members gathered in Bilbao in the offices of our INNOVALIA Metrology partners to meet in person, ensure we were aligned on the research progress to date and verify the next steps to be taken moving forward.

After 24 months of full operation, most of the work in the first two project pillars—tasks related to Supply chain resilience and Data infrastructure—have been completed. Now, we have deployable solutions that use machine learning to enhance the M4ESTRO data infrastructure and boost supply chain resilience.

Interest also focused on simulations in the Industrial Metaverse which are currently at the peak of their development phases. Productive discussions explored the digital twin of the assets (Asset Administration Shell -AAS) aiming for compliance with the broader M4ESTRO dataspace framework. Concurrently, partners addressed the need for more simulation processes and digital twin components, and assessed the progress made. This need extends to the dynamic extension of the AAS through capabilities, hybrid digital twin, and multi-actor/real-time simulations—all aiming to bolster manufacturing resilience by predicting disruptions and rapidly adapting to new circumstances.

Beyond these, partners took a deep dive into a variety of other aspects, such as notable advancements in MaaS sustainability assessments, explainable DSS, and the NLP chatbot that will be developed in the project's framework. For the latter two, current efforts focus on their potential integration with other M4ESTRO components, and on validating models using use-cases data.

Here, at the project's halfway point, the partners have exited this general assembly having an important thought in mind—the main efforts from this point forward will focus on ensuring that newly developed components will be integrated and used in project use-cases for testing and validation purposes. The M4ESTRO team is working toward achieving in one year the milestone marking the deployment of solutions to the pilots.
